WHAT'S NEW

One could say the origins of Mediterranean Sol Gourmet started in a small cobblestone farming town in the south of Navarra with two sons farming their crops, exactly how their father had taught them. One could also say that it began with a strange twist of love at first sight. But, the truth is that this story really unravelled at the wildly Spanish fiestas in Pamplona, known as San Fermin or The Running of the Bulls. It was somewhere between bull runs and red wine Sangrias that two worlds came together: the old and the new. Of course at the time, nobody knew what was about to evolve.

Blanco Family Traditional Dinner

Before turning a corner in Pamplona and changing his life forever, Roberto Blanco and his brother Jose Luis grew up with all of the traditions of typical Spanish life: the laughter of leisurely family meals, the familiar smells of mama cooking in the kitchen, and the regularity of strolling through the narrow lanes stopping now and again to enjoy aperitivos, tapas, and light-hearted conversation.

They worked hard during the day, tending to their harvests in the same way their father had. However, in Spain there is always time left over for beloved national pastimes: regional foods, provincial wine and of course, outrageous fiestas.

The Spanish have always known that the San Fermin fiestas are a magical time when the least expected can happen. Sure enough, one year the unexpected happened to Roberto Blanco: he met his future wife, an American from California.

Although at that time neither spoke the other's language, they both knew big changes were in store for each of them. With a Spanish-English Dictionary in one hand and an engagement ring in the other, Roberto proposed and a new life began for both of them.

The excitement of nuptual preparations filled the air, and after celebrating an American style wedding in an ancient Spanish monastery Roberto continued preparing the harvest just as he and his brother always had. It was that spring when they decided to combine the two cultures and bring the delicious Mediterranean foods they treasured to the United States.
